Moncton Open, February, 2006

 The following is a summary of the results from the Moncton Open Racquetball tournament held at the CEPS complex, University of Moncton, on Feb 3, 4 and 5, 2006. There were 10 division titles up for grabs. The tournament had 38 participants from around the Maritimes including 16 junior players, which is a record high for the Moncton Open.

Men’s Open Division:

 Winner: Paul Frizzell of Charlottetown defeated Denise Haynes of Clare in the finals. In the consolation round, Jim Auld of PEI defeated Marcel Landry of Clare, N.S.

Men’s A Division:

Winner: Denise Haynes defeated Cassian Ferlatte of Saint John. Barry Moore of Lower Coverdale won the consolation final against Marcel Landry of Clare, N.S.

Men’s B Division:

Winner: Paul LeBlanc of Dieppe defeated Leo Hanregan of PEI in the finals. Joe MacLean of Amherst, NS defeated Jonathan Bertin of Moncton in the consolation round.

Men’s C Division: Glen Sampson of Halifax took the top spot with Lawrence Chalupa of Halifax coming in second. Showing that the sport of racquetball can be played for a lifetime, third place was taken by 70 year old Neil Brydon of PEI.

Men’s D Division: Glen Sampson took home his second division title defeating Lawrence Chalupa in the final. In the consolation round, Stephen Peck defeated Marc Gauvin of Riverview in the finals.

Junior A Division: Stephen Peck won the junior title in the round robin format. Eric Sampson took second place, ahead of Marc Gauvin of Riverview by only a 2 point margin.

Doubles: There were four doubles events. The Open division was won by Marcel Haynes and Marcel Landry of Clare. NS. 2^nd place was Marc Arsenault (Moncton) and Cassisan Ferlatte of Saint John. In the consolation final Paul Frizzell (PEI) and Don Yeo (Riverview) defeated Jim Auld and Leo Hanregan of PEI.

In the A Division, Ray Cochran and Todd Lawrence of Amherst, N.S. defeated Sean Ackerson and John Hennessey of Saint John. The A doubles consolation finals featured an all Moncton area group as Mike McCabe and Barry Moore teamed up to defeat Kyle Kuhn and

Mathieu Lirette.

The B Doubles was a round robin event with top spot being taken by Stephen Campbell and Kent Doyle of PEI. 2^nd place went to Andrea Albert and Lawrence Chalupa of Halifax. 3^rd place to Luc and Vincent Doucet of Clare NS.

In the Mixed Doubles event Myriam Laforge and Paul Frizzell took 1^st place, with Denise Haynes and Marcel Haynes coming in 2^nd and Andrea Albert and Lawrence Chalupa of Halifax taking 3^rd spot
