The Alliance for Safe Sport and Recreation is proud to host a workshop for individuals involved with youth in sport, recreation and community. Take advantage of this great opportunity!

Homophobia in Sport Workshop

This session will explore what is homophobia, how it plays out in sport, why sport administrators and coaches need to address it, and what strategies and resources are available to make your sport welcoming for lesbians and gays. This interactive session will provide sport administrators and coaches with the opportunity to learn about and discuss openly questions and issues around sexual diversity, using real life examples and small group discussions to enhance understanding. The workshop will also focus on concrete strategies and actions that sport administrators and coaches can take to make their sport more welcoming for lesbians and gays, along with excellent resources to do so.

When: April 25th, 6-9pm

Support the Canadian Amateur Sport Network

Amateur sport simply cannot play its vital nation-building role successfully without significantly more exposure.

The COC has launched an initiative to
apply for an English language national digital broadcast license to operate as the Canadian Amateur Sports Network (CASN) and a French language national digital broadcast license to operate as Réseau des sports amateur canadiens (RSAC). Read more...

NB's International Athlete's Results

Congratulations to.....
Promise Mwenga (NB) who earned a Bronze Medal in the 55kg Greco Roman discipline at the Pan American Championships in Colorado Springs, CO. Results
Scott Seeley (NB) who earned a Bronze Medal in the 96kg Greco Roman discipline at the Pan American Championships in Colorado Springs, CO.

Krista Betts (NB) who earned a Bronze Medal in the 48kg Women’s discipline at the CIS Wrestling Championships at the University of Calgary. She also earned a Bronze in the 44Kg in the Junior division at the Canadian National Championships in Guelph, Ontario.

Vince Cormier (NB) who took home the Gold Medal in both  the 47kg Men’s discipline at the CIS Wrestling Championships at the University of Calgary, and 55Kg Senior division at the Canadian National Championships. He also earned a Bronze in the 55Kg Junior division.

Eric Feunekes (NB) finished 6th in the Men’s 82kg discipline at the CIS Wrestling Championships at the University of Calgary. He also took home a Silver in the 84Kg

Community Sport Funding Program

If you want to increase opportunities for children and youth to play sports in your community, the True Sport Community Fund can help.
Over the next year, communities will benefit from $5,000 grants and $25,000 grants.
Please refer to the Fund Guidelines
 for a definition of sport eligibility.
The deadline is
May 31st, 2008.

KidSport™ News

The annual Hershey's Easter Egg Hunt was a big success! There were 3 events held across the province in Sussex, Miramichi and Bathurst. 
Over 300 children participated, receiving lots  of chocolate treats and taking part in great activities to raise money for KidSport
.
Thank you to all the volunteers and to Hershey's for providing the chocolate.

Coaches Corner

The Centre for Coaching Education of New Brunswick will offer the National Coaching Certification Program Multi-Sport Part A Theory clinic in English in Fredericton..
The Multi Sport Part A will be held April 18th and 19th 2008.
The length of the Multi-Sport Part A is 11.5 hours and the cost is $40.

Women who run regularly should make sure they eat enough fat. A recent study has shown what Neety Panu found out the hard way: Female runners who eat too little fat in their daily diet are more susceptible to injuries.
