Objectives:
For the promotion of Judo, to give a better support and to encourage our best judokas who invest time, money and energy to achieve their potential at the provincial, national or international level. Judo NB will have a Provincial Team with specific criteria.

Composition:
Team NB will be composed of judokas ageing from Juvenile to Senior.
• All athletes with "F" standard or better on the National Team
•A maximum of  15 judokas
• All athletes equal in points for the 15th position


This number represents the number of athletes that take competition seriously and obtain results.  This number is also in accord with the budget that Judo NB has for the Provincial Team.

Advantages:
Members of the Provincial Team will have specific advantage:

• Team Tracksuit at reduced price and/or other promotional articles at reduced prices.
• Registration paid at Nationals, Rendez-Vous Canada as per budget permit.
• Subsidies to participate at Nationals tournaments.
• Free registration for the regular Judo NB Camp.
• 50% off registration at Atlantic Camp
• $100 off from the Summer Camp registration

Obligations:
All athletes who want to be on the Provincial Team must  follow specific rules.

• Follow the Athletes Code of Conduct when he/she participates in Provincial Team activities.

Selection Criteria:

• Results at National.
• Best result at Quebec Open or Ontario Open
• Results at the 2 NB Cup and Provincial Championship.
• Best result at Eastern Canadian or Atlantic Championship.
 

*     A minimum of one win is required to count the points. (See definition of a win in the National Team

       Handbook 2005 policy 2)

*     Tournament exemption: An athlete selected for an international competition by Judo NB or Judo Canada

       will be exempted to compete at a provincial selection the week before until the week after that international

       competition.  The athlete will receive the same points as his/her last selection tournament.

*     The Selection Committee will make the final selection of the Team.

*     Participation at the Provincial is mandatory to be eligible for the Provincial Team

*     The Team will be revised once a year on April 1st.

Note:     * Only points of green and higher belt will be entered for the selection.
            
* If an athlete competes in a different category at one tournament, only half the points will count for the
                selection.  Only in one category above or below is new official category.
    

Appeal Process:

     - An appeal shall be heard ONLY on the grounds that the selection process and final decision was flawed,
       not because the athlete did not like the decision. In other words:

1)     The Selection Committee made a decision for which lacked authority;

2)     The Selection Committee failed to follow procedures in the Judo NB approved selection criteria;

3)     The Selection Committee made a decision which was influenced by bias;

4)     The Selection Committee failed to consider relevant information or took into account irrelevant information in making the decision;

5)     The Selection Committee exercised its discretion for an improper purpose; and/or

6)     The Selection Committee made a decision that was unreasonable.

-    The athlete shall be given 48 hours to request an appeal. The athlete must present his/her request in writing to the Chair of the Appeals Committee of Judo NB.

-    The Appeals Committee shall review the letter and decide whether or not the request has grounds for a hearing. They shall also review all selection procedure documentation from the Selection Committee.

-    If there are no legitimate grounds for appeal, the Chair of the Appeals Committee shall call the athlete advising her/him of the decision. This will be followed up with a formal letter to the athlete.

-    If the Appeals Committee feels there are grounds for an appeal hearing, the following procedures will take place:

1)       The Chair of the Appeals Committee shall select a designated place, date and time to hear the appeal. This will be done no later than 48 hours upon receipt of the appeal request.

2)       The Appeals Committee shall hear the athlete’s complaint. He/she may be accompanied by an athlete advocate (parent or guardian or legal advisor, etc.)

3)       The Appeals Committee shall hear from the Selection Committee representative (the Canada Games coach).

4)       The Appeals Committee will make a final decision at the appeal hearing and the decision shall be final and binding.

5)       The Chair of the Appeals Committee will contact the athlete no later than 24 hours after the hearing by phone to advise him/her of the outcome and this will be followed by a formal letter and copy of the appeal findings and recommendation.

6)       The Chair of the Appeals Committee will contact the Head Coach by phone to advise him/her of the outcome. A copy of the formal letter will follow this up to the athlete and copy of the appeal findings and recommendation.

-     The athlete who submits an appeal must be prepared to cover his/her own expenses during the process (i.e.: travel to the hearing). Judo NB will make every effort to minimize such costs. Should the athlete be successful with his/her appeal, Judo NB will reimburse related expenses.

-     The Appeals Committee is comprised of:

      1. Chair of the Committee – JP  Cantin (will only vote in case of a tie)
2. Board Member – Anna Goguen
3. Coach Rep – Rino Perron
4. Officials Rep – Mike Hetherington
5. Athlete Rep  – Marco Volpe (alternate - Serge Goguen)

 

 

Judo NB CoachingTeam

Objectives:
judo NB put in place a  "Coaching Team" to give better support and encourage our coaches that invest time and resources to excel in coaching at the National and International Levels.

Composition:
To be on the Team the Coach must:
• Be certified NCCP Level 3
• To have at least one athlete on the Provincial Team
• One coach per club without counting the Head Coach
• The Head Coach get at expenses paid on trip selected by Judo NB

Advantages:
• Track suit and/or specialized article (one per year)
• Funding to go to specific tournaments selected by Judo NB
• Free registration to all camps in NB

Obligations:
All coaches that want to be on the Provincial Team must:
• Attend the Selection Tournament in NB and Camps
• Be a member of CPCA (Canadian Professional Coaching Association)
• Respect and follow the Coaching Code of Conduct
• Police check (criminal background check)
